Suzuki and Maruti Suzuki plan 11 additional biogas plants in India
Suzuki is developing seven more cow-dung-based facilities, while Maruti Suzuki is separately planning four agricultural-waste plants.
What was announced
Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India have outlined 11 additional biogas projects in India. Suzuki reportedly operates three cow-dung-based facilities and is developing seven more, while Maruti Suzuki is separately planning four plants using agricultural waste. Maruti's board had already approved ₹561 crore for the first phase of its four-plant programme, according to the company's August 2026 integrated-report announcement. The expansion connects dairy and agricultural waste collection with vehicle fuel and industrial energy use.
How to read the emissions claim
The statement that CBG is carbon-negative is an operator claim, not a result that can be applied automatically to every project. Actual lifecycle performance depends on the counterfactual treatment of manure, feedstock sourcing, methane leakage, process energy, transport and digestate management. Individual plant capacities, locations, process configurations, commissioning schedules and contracted offtake terms were not disclosed in the September report.
Practical implication
This is a meaningful demand signal for dung collection, agricultural-residue preparation, gas upgrading and digestate systems. Developers and EPC teams should still evaluate each facility on its own feedstock catchment, gas balance and delivery route. The group announcement is evidence of investment intent, but it is not a performance benchmark or proof that the same economics will apply to an independent CBG project.
